Akeju
Hall is located inside the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, the paramount
ruler of Oyo town and its suburbs. Traditionally Akeju Hall serves as
a ceremonial hall for ceremonies that involve large audiences. |
Asipa Magistrate Court is one of the customary courts located within Oyo town. It is usually presided over by the Asipa of Oyo. The Asipa is one of the Oyo Mesi, the powerful ruling council of chiefs that the Alaafin consults on all matters concerning Oyo . |

Around 1986, indigenes of the Ibarapa
and Oyo areas of Oyo State, Nigeria who lived in the Washington, D.C.
Metropolitan area, decided to create a formal organization that would,
among other things, foster unity, organize social activities, plan for
the future of their children being born here in the United States, and
promote their cultural heritages. Since then, we have not forgotten the
towns where we came from. We have, in various ways provided support to
improve the lives of the residents of the towns we come from. |
